Recap 10/18/09 - Bear Claw, The Bismarck, Bottomless Pit

Well, a bit of a bittersweet night as we said good bye to our original spot with an amazing line-up of bands. There will be plenty of time to talk about the former, so let's focus on the latter for now.

Local indie dream team Bottomless Pit got things started. They were showcasing a bunch of new material, and if what they gave us a taste of is any indication, the new record is going to be amazing. See for yourselves:

The Bismarck made the trip from Washington state to rattle our foundation on this final night. These guys were just funny as hell, and they reminded us that the rainy northwest is never at a shortage for the rocking:

There was only really one proper way to end the final show of our stay here; the same way we ended the show in the wee hours of the morning over 3 years ago during the Touch & Go afterparty. That's with the senior band in the Union Rock Yards tribe, the incomparable, untouchable, Bear Claw. Here, they blast through "Repetition", the final song ever on this stage:

And that's that for now. We'll have more news on our plans here, hopefully sooner than later. Keep an eye on this spot to stay abreast, or, if you want the news to come to you, follow us on Twitter, or become a fan on Facebook or MySpace and get yo' geek on!

See you all real soon!
Mark, Rich, and all of us over at URY.

Upcoming: Sunday 10/18 - Bottomless Pit, The Bismarck, Bear Claw

YAWN! Stretch!

Oh hey everybody, it's been a long-assed time, but we're back with an instant classic for y'all. You know we wouldn't fuck around, check this out:

We're honored to welcome Bottomless Pit into our basement. Comprised of members of Silkworm, Seam, and .22; you'd be hard pressed to find a more potent lineup, and the results aren't surprising...from the Onion AV Club:

Atop the pathos lies the melodic, distinctly Midwestern indie rock Bottomless Pit's members have spent years honing. It's a patient, methodical approach, and when the payoffs arrive—like the sweet end of "Human Out Of Me"—they hit harder and last longer.

Do not miss this:

Coming down from Seattle to be our first ever guests from the Northwest will be The Bismarck. And they'll represent correctly. From Tiny Mix Tapes:

This album can rock the socks right off your feet. It starts out with a full blast of energy, with immediately pounding drums and shouting vocals that persist for quite awhile. When it finally slows down, it’s not cheesy ballads that they give you but what can be called beautiful math rock, the repetitious little melody aptly titled "A Meaning Accrued By Duration."

If you know anything about us, I doubt that I have to tell you about Bear Claw. It is only fitting that they would be bringing down the house during our first show in months and months, and they come packing some potent new material. Every show by these guys you miss is a mistake:

In closing, I'm hesitant to mention anything, but there is a *chance* that this will be our final show at the spot here at North and Fairfield. The cards still have to fall, but if that wound up being the case, I'd feel bad if I didn't give fair warning. More details when we know them.
